A discussion about the 5 D's
Intro
After listening to Lisa's story, bring the group together in a circle to discuss the following questions.
Instructions
DIRECT: You can take direct action. If you decide to step in and say something, how would you do it?
DISTRACT: You can distract the person by offering to do something that takes their mind off whatever they are doing that is risky. What ideas could you use to distract an anxious friend?
DELEGATE: You can delegate or ask someone else to lend a hand. Who do you think you would ask and what might you ask them to do?
DOCUMENT: You can make a note of instances to see if there is a pattern. What things might you note down?
DELAY: Even if the person gives up knife carrying, or other risky behaviour - how can you help prevent it from occurring again?
