This year our team are running regional practitioner and police training events across the country in partnership with Police Scotland. Join us to develop your knowledge and practical skills on working with young people to ensure they grow up safely and reach their full potential.

During these sessions you will be introduced to our current projects and resources and given the opportunity to explore local challenges. The topics covered will include:

  • Positive masculinity
  • Restorative approaches
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Peer education.

In addition, these sessions will provide the opportunity to network with local police officers, youth workers and other multi-agency practitioners, exploring how you could work in partnership to address some of the local challenges.

Who should attend?

The events are for anyone working with young people in the surrounding local area. For example, the Kirkcaldy event is open to practitioners in Fife and Tayside.

For police officers, attending this event contributes directly to your CPD. More information will be shared when you sign up.

Case Study – Partnership working to prevent offending

An excellent example of partnership between police and youth workers can be seen in the formation of Mastrick Outdoor Youth Hub in Aberdeen. After having just under 600 emergency service call outs to a Tesco store for youth-related incidents, the Police teamed up with the store manager and local youth workers to secure funding to create an outdoor hub in the Tesco car park. The young people were able to take ownership of the space and work together with the youth workers to make their ideas for the community come to life. In the first year of the project, the number of incidents fell from 600 to 12 and in the second year dropped even further to just 7 incidents. You can listen to an interview with the practitioners on the Children’s Parliament podcast here.
